Concrete Placement
The steel table exits the panel layout stations
and travels on rollers to the concrete placement station. Stringent
quality control procedures are followed to insure proper strength
of the concrete mixture. Precast concrete needs to achieve high
strengths in a very rapid time frame. Compressive strengths of 3000
psi after 8 or 9 hours can be attained through the use of high early-strength
mixtures. New state-of-the-art materials such as self compacting
concrete (SCC) are used to guarantee the highest surface quality
finishes.
A batch plant mixes up the exact quantity of concrete mixture for
the panels on each table. Each batch will be sampled and then tested
for quality control purposes. The concrete spreader will receive
the concrete mixture and dispense the concrete into the panels in
a highly automated fashion. The spreader has ten gates which can
be open or closed depending on panel size and presence of any openings.
The roto-vane auger inside, as well as each gate sprinkle the concrete
mixture into each wall of floor panel. This diminishes the force
that the concrete comes out at, ensuring that the reinforcing steel
is not displaced. After all of the panels on the table are filled
with concrete, the table moves along the rollers to the next station
for final consolidation.
